Changes in organising the Festival
2003 In the
meantime the knowledge of the festival became bigger. During the
International Tourism Exchange the organisers met other Pacific
islanders friends of the
pacific islands and they gave give the information to other
friends. German Pacific Society also supported the festival. Manfred
and Christel Assmann did all the preparations in Sachsenbrunn, where
the festival again will take place. The invitations for
the festival were sent by letter mail to many Pacific islander
families. Everyone had to register participation. Some weeks
before we saw that there will be much more people than last
year. We found the school hostel which we can use for accommodation and
the yard of this house we also can use as welcome party area on Friday
evening.The meadow next
to the community church in Schirnrod was chosen for the
festival area for Saturday morning and afternoon like in the year
before. This time we had two umus. We had a Tongan and a Samoan
Umu. The hall in the restaurant in Sachsenbrunn was too
small for 150 people and that's why we rented a bus to take us to
Masserberg which is 15 km to hold the Island Night with
dances, food and drinks. Another thing we never did before and after
this never again a parade and ofcourse you need a licence to do
this. The parade started at the church community center in Schirnrod
and finished at the shopping center. On a meadow a
Samoan Kava ceremony was arranged. Some of us went to lunch to
Schirnrod. Here we discussed the place for next year's festival.
The result: Stuttgart!
