INVITATION

August 5 - 7, 2011
We invite all Pacific Islanders and all friends of the Pacific area
in Germany and Europe to join the Pacific Island Festival
Europe 2011. We are going to celebtate the 10th anniversary of the
Pacific Islands Festival from 5th to 7th of August 2011. Let
us spend one long weekend in the spirit of Aloha. Share with us the friendly atmosphere of the Pacific
Islanders from Melanesia, Polynesia, Micronesia including our friends
from West Melanesia. The culture of the Moluccas belongs to Oceania. We
are expecting guests from all over the world
including honourary guest from our Pacific homelands.
For this 10th anniversary festival we have chosen a historical
place in
Gotha, Thuringia right in the middle of Germany. There is a race track,
which was build by the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Today this track is
still existing not only for horse races but also as Event-Park. The
historical buildinngs are still existing. The covered grandstand is
about 30
m long and contains about 400 spectator seats. In addition there is a
restaurant and the festival place. The adjacent meadow
after that, we can use for 3 days as a camp site. On the festival site there
will be a Pacific Market with stalls. Anyone can sell cost art
objects, products of the pacific and other things excluding fresh food
at cost.
Tattoos can also be
offered. We prefere traditional tattoos of the Pacific. Requests

The public part of the festival starts on Friday at 4 p.m. and ends on
Sunday around 4 p.m. The plan of the programme is published but might
still be changed. It is
planned to open the festival with celibrity guests on Friday at 6 p.m..
At 8 p.m we will begin begin the the great Pacific Evening
Show with the group Varua Ori & Toteva Rapa Nui with dances from Easter Island
and other groups. The the names
will be mentioned later.
The festival site is open on Saturday from 9 o'clock.
During the daytime there will be workshops for young and older
people to show the culture of the pacific to everyone who isinterestedin
in it
Around noon time the
festival takes place in worship service followed by the kava ceremony. The
rugby match is scheduled for 3 p.m. Two teams will be compiled from
the present Tongan and Fijian and the present players and will compete
with a selection ot players from Thuringia.
Around 3 p.m. the stage can be used for different competitions for our young visitors. (talent show,
modelling island wear creation and national costume
competition). The
next highlight will be the Saturday Evening Show with different
guest groups.
Competitions can be finished in between.
The umu is served once fully prepared on Saturday afternoon.
Food and drinks is also available also from restaurant at the festival area.
On Sunday the Pacific market is open till afternoon. The stage can be
used for dance groups especially for European groups or any
other artists according to the wishes of the audience.
Tickets are on sale for registered guests via
internet. The prices
for tickets in advance for
registered guest for the whole weekend including shows and umu: 20
Euro (only if you forward till 14th of July), later on from
15th to 31st of July 25

Saturday: Day ticket for all shows: 8 Euro
Sunday: Day ticket 3 Euro
Children from 13 to 17 half price (applies to all kinds of tickets)
The internet provides more details and directions to the festival
including a list of hotels and guesthouses and other accommodation
options. Please book yourself. If you want to camp on the festival
site, a fee of 5 Euro is charged per person over 18 years in one
family plus 5 Eüro per extra tent more than one. Campers under
18 pay 2,50 Euro per person. Please note that there is no shower
facility on the site.
